We have forgotten our primordial survival code and adopted another code to live by.
We thrive to gain pleasure and to avoid pain.
Each culture and individual does this in their own idiosyncratic and special way, yet we all act just the same.
The addiction to smoking penetrates this gap between the primordial purpose and the adapted purpose.

Primordial Purpose:
Adapted Purpose: |
Survive no matter what.
Seek pleasure and avoid pain. |
Nicotine addiction sits perfectly with the 'gain pleasure avoid pain' formula and so it is excellently aligned with the adapted purpose. There's no contradiction, no discrepancy - it makes perfect sense to smoke.
But this situation can change, and when the change comes it is quite dramatic. The reason behind the change is a shift from the adapted purpose, back to the primordial purpose.
When the shift occurs it is easy to quit smoking, it is not even an issue. We return to living by the primordial purpose and we do whatever it takes to protect and preserve dear life.
For now, let us proceed with the necessary disassociation - separating you and addiction.
The voice of addiction is not yours!
If it were up to you, you would have quit smoking a long time ago. But addiction took over and addiction wants to live.
If you quit smoking, addiction dies.
If you continue to smoke, addiction lives and you die. Addiction is a beast. It has immense survival powers and it wants to live no matter what, even at the cost of your life. This is not an analogy or a simile or philosophy - this is the sheer truth of the matter. It is you or it now, and now is the time to kill, dear friend!
It is the truth. Addiction is a separate entity that lives inside you. When you are not aware of it, it talks inside your head; it promotes notions, feelings and thoughts to make sure you are maintaining the pattern to nourish it at the cost of killing you.
Do you realize that your head is home to a cold-blooded murderer who will deprive you of years of good life, induce terrible disease, and kill you prematurely?
You are being such a gracious host to your enemy because you are not aware. You are under the influence of a drug.
Wake up! | |
