7. You have to simply redefine yourself as a non-smoker. You have to see yourself in terms of being a non-smoker. Only then you are safe, and even then you are in a higher-risk group because you have been a smoker before.
8. You have already reinvented yourself. Now redefine yourself. You are a non-smoker - you have to say it to yourself and own it. 'I am a non-smoker.' Get this idea into your head, say it out loud to yourself and tell others about it. 'I am a non-smoker' - let it be known so that your smoking friends don't offer you a cigarette. You are a non-smoker.
9. Keep practicing the following technique for a few minutes a day. Try it also in a moment of minor worry or stress and see how it feels.
Focus your entire attention on the breath as it flows through your nostrils and down the windpipe to the lungs. Feel your lungs inflating and then escort the breath on its way out.
Notice how you are not involved in the process, it all happens quite perfectly and naturally. Just observe, don't try to manipulate it in any way, don't breathe heavily, don't breathe intentionally, just observe.
10. Join a gym or find a physical activity that is suitable for you. You have to incorporate some energetic physical activity into your day-to-day life. Join a gym or an exercise class or anything that will create a framework and endorse your commitment to the process.
You have to remember that physical activity is measured with sweat. You have to use your stress energy in a proactive manner. You will undoubtedly experience great benefits.
What you have to do is make the physical activity a habit. Habits are quite easy to form, just commit to a certain activity and stick to it for a month or so. Without realizing, you will find yourself almost addicted to it. We are all pregnant with addictive personalities, so take advantage of this and become 'addicted' to good habits. |
