Love and respect yourself, have compassion for yourself. You have to be there for yourself.
If you will not be there for yourself, who will?
This is not about preaching - it is about perceptions.
It is about reminding you that smoking is an act of disrespect, there's no compassion in it. You couldn't call it an act of love, it is more appropriate to put it under the category of suicide.
Love and respect yourself, have compassion for yourself. It is the most ancient command and a valuable one too. It all starts there.
And so in moments of weakness, remind yourself of what's going on. Remind yourself that giving up smoking, apart from its obvious blessing, is an important milestone. You are doing yourself a great favor, you are cleaning your environment and protecting your home, you are paying respect to yourself and showing compassion for yourself.
Gratification will come immediately, it is already here and you can most probably feel it already. However, the road might be treacherous during the next few days.
This is only because of that cunning but dying beast, addiction. It is still grasping and clinging and striving to remain alive. Do not give it any compassion, rather tread on its ugly head.
It is time to kill, dear friend. Remember it is time to kill the beast so you can live.
So if your current sense of gratification is laced with pain, take the pain with dignity. It is better to consciously choose immediate pain, which will yield long-term pleasures, rather then choosing the short-term pleasure that addiction suggests. This will only bring long-term strife and agony.
Don't even ponder the possibility of succumbing: this option is non-existent. You are a winner, and enough is enough.
But now that you are not smoking, how will you deal with stress? |
• Don't stress about stress management.
• Do not confuse negative emotions and stress - they are two different things.
• Negative emotions are of no use - they are merely an indication that you need to work on yourself and be rid of them.
• You get rid of them by reminding yourself that it is more sensible to wear a good pair of leather sandals than to try to pave the entire world.
• Craft your attitude and make it your pair of sandals and the world will be smooth. But try to smooth the world to suite you and you are forever lost.
